The optional year 10

The ideal preparation for entry into specialized middle school, and can also be combined with sport

The optional year 10 is a real opportunity for all pupils who have completed year 9 and want to take a decisive step forwards in their education and/or sporting career. It offers the ideal conditions to prepare for entrance exams into colleges. In the optional year 10, provides the foundation for a successful academic future.

During the optional year 10, work focuses on the increasing development of the skills needed and practice for the required examination materials for year 3 of the grammar school, and year 1 of upper-secondary specialised school and commercial school. Up to the entrance exam, the teaching materials concentrate in particular on the cantonal requirements of prior knowledge for acceptance into college. Following on from that, the work of year 3 from secondary school is repeated and students are readied for their transfer to college. Through targeted repetition of secondary school subject matter, the students develop the requisite know-how and selfconfidence to successfully navigate their further education.

The optional year 10 plus sport

During the optional year 10, up-and-coming athletes are given the opportunity to optimally combine school and sport together. In this decisive phase of their sporting development, ambitious young people can prepare themselves for the entrance exams to college as well as enjoy daily, intensive training in our sports class.

To facilitate this, we employ the best trainers and can boast an excellent infrastructure which has already produced Olympic champions. The Institute is the official training facility for the regional competitive sports promoter and one of the most successful sports schools in Switzerland.

They should have distinguished themselves at secondary school with good marks, be motivated to attend school and make a concerted eff ort to achieve their personal goals. The HIF values open, sociable and tolerant pupils.
