The High Alpin Institute Ftan (HIF) is one of the most successful Swiss sports schools and is the official director of training groups of the Cantonal Ski Association (Bündner Skiverband, BSV) for snowboarding and Nordic skiing. Furthermore, HIF is an official regional training centre for the Swiss Alpine Ski Association.
The HIF offers an ideal academic and sporting environment for competitive and recreational athletes in the disciplines of cross country skiing, Alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, Alpine snowboarding and freestyle snowboarding as well as ice hockey. Biathlon is offered in collaboration with the Biathlon Association of Eastern Switzerland (BSO).
The HIF enables talented and passionate young athletes to combine competitive or recreational sports with their schooling, without increasing the amount of time spent in education. Athletes take part in regular classes. A special support programme guarantees the right balance between school and sport. Central to this support are independence and the development of individual personalities.
We respond to each and every athlete’s individual needs, and accept them at their existing level of development, regardless of the performance level they are at. It is the individual’s passion and motivation which are decisive in achieving their set objectives in school and in sport. The sports class can be joined at any stage of education and at any time.
The HIF is located in the middle of a unique mountain environment and boasts an extensive sports infrastructure on site.
Training facilities at HIF: Sports hall with trampoline, cardio equipment, strength training rooms and gymnastics areas, mini-ramp, therapy rooms, 2 tennis courts, football pitch, 100 m sprint track, skateboard mini-ramp, slackline, countless bike and walking trails in the surrounding area. Only 5 minutes’ walk to the Ftan chairlift. Direct access to the cross-country ski trail, biathlon shooting area, pistes and winter walking trails. Small, specially designed fun park behind the school. Swimming pool, ice rinks, a golf course and climbing wall are all only 10 minutes away by car.
Further training locations: Scuol, Samnaun, Davos and Laax, among others, and a number of summer glacier ski areas such as Stelvio, Schnalstal, Pitztal and Kaunertal (all reachable within 1 to 2,5 hours).

The FV RPN contributes a large part of the annual fee for the sports class at HIF. All training and competitions are run entirely by the sports class at HIF.
In order to guarantee comprehensive support for each individual, we also offer the athletes therapy to support their recovery from injury or illness, and for their psychological and physical well-being. We currently offer the following treatments in the therapy room at the school: craniosacral therapy, kinesiology, massage and physio- therapy.
The HIF is known far and wide for its family feeling. The staff in the boarding school are available 24/7 for help and advice. They support pupils during school hours and organise extensive leisure activities.
Comfortable bedrooms and numerous communal areas are provided for the students.
The athletes use the weekend for training and competitions, or they make use of the wide variety of special activities on offer. During the week there is a great variety of leisure activities for the students to choose from.
Acceptance into the sports class is based on a declaration of ability from an appropriate sports class trainer. In addition to this, a sports-medicine assessment is required before acceptance into the sports class. Female athletes will also need to complete the Female Athlete Triad questionnaire.
In addition to cost of basic tuition, your selection from our array of further services, such as the sport class or boarding, determine the definitive total cost of tuition for your child.
We offer in our sport class intensive, individualized and ability-appropriate competitive-training, conceptualized for talented young athletes. Alternately, in our fun sport group, we also provide athletically-oriented adolescents the opportunity to learn about fitness, weight training and training for a specific athletic discipline.
For pupils who reside in the National Park Region, we have special rates to offer, provided that they are members of the regional ski-sport booster club (Skisport Förderverein RNP).
We will be happy to present you with a detailed tuition quotation in a personal consultation.
