In the Engadin, the mountains, lakes and outdoor environment become part of everyday life, creating opportunities for hands-on learning and for students to explore, challenge themselves and develop a healthy, active lifestyle.
Academic ambition. Sporting ambition. Why choose?
At HIF, movement is part of everyday life. Students can combine the Matura with a wide range of options, from recreational sport and outdoor adventures to structured ski training, athletic development in our Sports Academy, and elite competition.
Our flexible approach allows students to create a pathway around their own interests and ambitions, developing discipline, resilience, teamwork and confidence alongside their academic studies.
Whether sport is a passion, a performance goal or simply part of a healthy lifestyle, students can make the most of the unique possibilities the Engadin has to offer.
Matura Curriculum:
broad by design
The curriculum is based on a broad general education in the fields of languages, mathematics, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, arts and physical education.
Beyond the curriculum, project work, scientific inquiry and critical analysis encourage students to question, investigate and form their own ideas.
Through immersive learning in selected subjects, students develop the confidence to think, communicate and learn across languages.
Preparing with confidence
As students approach their Matura examinations, structured preparation helps them consolidate their knowledge, strengthen their understanding and approach their exams with confidence. Individual support, regular feedback and targeted practice ensure that students know where they are, where they need to improve and how to get there.

Learning to think like a university student
The Matura thesis enables students to move beyond the classroom and explore a subject that genuinely interests them.
Over the course of a year, they learn to research independently, evaluate evidence, develop an argument and communicate their findings – skills that form a valuable foundation for university study and beyond.
Each Matura thesis includes a written research paper or creative project with a reflective commentary, as well as an oral presentation. The topic is chosen collaboratively between the student and their supervising teachers, ensuring both support and ownership from the start.
Boarding in an international community
Students live and learn in a supportive and spectacularly beautiful Alpine environment where academic development, personal growth and wellbeing go hand in hand.
Comfortable ensuite single, twin and triple rooms, shared lounges, media spaces and our auditorium – with billiards, table tennis and a grand piano – provide welcoming spaces to study, relax and connect with friends alongside students from different cultures and backgrounds. Campers also have free access to our fitness and sports facilities, and daily meals are served in our family-style dining hall, creating a relaxed setting where students can come together and enjoy a balanced, social dining experience.
Our caring house parents and boarding staff are present around the clock, supporting students with their routines, wellbeing and personal development while encouraging them to become increasingly independent. With staff trained in first aid and medical emergencies, and a hospital just 10 minutes away, families can be confident that students are cared for in a safe and well-supported environment.
Where can the HIF Matura take your child?
The Swiss Matura provides direct access to universities across Switzerland, and throughout the world. Our students have been accepted to ETH Zurich, EPFL, Ecole hotelier de Lausanne, the University of St. Gallen and many others.
But university destinations are only part of the story. The independence, languages, research skills and confidence developed at HIF prepare students for whatever comes next.
