Successful weekend for the HIF Sports Academy – on both sides of the globe

The HIF Sports Academy athletes celebrated impressive successes last weekend in both Switzerland and Australia. While the 15th edition of Swiss-Ski's Nordic Weekend was taking place in Andermatt and Realp, on the other side of the world, the call was "Skiers ready – attention!" at the Interschools Snowsport Championships.

Nordic Weekend

For the 15th time, the elite of Nordic disciplines gathered for the traditional Nordic Weekend, the largest off-snow event in the cross-country skiing and biathlon scene in Switzerland. Once again, our athletes impressed with outstanding performances.

Saskia Barbüda, in particular, stood out: She delivered impressive performances throughout the weekend, especially in the mountain run, securing third place overall in the U20 category. Her strong form promises hope for a successful winter season.

Marchet Nesa, who also performed solidly despite a lack of training, achieved a respectable 21st place overall. Especially on Sunday, in the roller ski individual start, he achieved an outstanding 6th place thanks to clever race planning.

HIF alumni in top form

Our former athletes also performed strongly. Isai Näff dominated the U20 category, securing a commanding victory. The elite women’s podium even featured an entire HIF alumni podium, including Gianna Chiara Wohler, her twin sister Carla Nina Wohler, and Giuliana Werro.

Other top results:
  • Alena Camastral: 10th place
  • Lukas Fliri: 7th place
  • Andrin Steiger: 12th place (best of his year)
  • Luca Benderer: 17th place
  • Leon Baumgartner: 18th place
  • Carlo Kirchen: 20th place

Our team performed well and the assessment was successful. Now it’s time to train hard for the next three months to optimize our form and fine-tune our performance for the upcoming season. I’m convinced we’re in for a great season!

Successes also on the other side of the world

The HIF Sports Academy also excelled in Australia. At Perisher Ski Resort, our student and alpine skier Jack Steiger-Thorpe competed in the regional competitions of the Interschools Snowsport Championships, delivering three outstanding performances on home soil and snow. He won gold in the Ski Cross Team event, bronze in the individual competition, and silver in the Giant Slalom, thus qualifying him for the Nationals.

Bravo and congratulations to Jack! He has steadily improved over the past year, and these great results reflect his hard work. A fantastic performance—keep it up!

Pavle Jonke, Alpine Skiing Coach

We are also proud of the achievements of our athletes and wish them continued success in the coming season!
