This year, three HIF students were able to participate in the Student Leadership Conference organized by EiM. The event took place at our sister school, the Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi.

Together with around 100 students from the EiM school network, they took part in various workshops and activities. The methods and insights they gained can now be actively applied at HIF.

“One thing I definitely learned during the three days is to respect different opinions, make difficult decisions, and present projects with confidence.”

We are already looking forward to their ideas and the upcoming projects!

No eschan be buonder a verer che chi vain our da l’ur experienza.

Nora: I doubt I can limit my answer to just one thing, because we got to experience so much during our short stay in Shanghai. Not only was I shocked by the enormous sizes of the other schools, not just by the number of students, but also regarding the infrastructures. I was also quite impressed by the city itself. During the conference we got to see a lot of the city. There as well I was astonished by the huge dimensions and especially by the view of the skyline we got to experience at night!

Sofia: I was, of course, very impressed by the city and the culture. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know new people. Their opinions on topics such as politics and school-related issues also impressed me and made me think. Overall, I think I liked the combination of sightseeing and the meeting the most.

Fabian: I was very impressed by the size of the school and the classes in Shanghai, which include far more students than at HIF. The city in general is also much more expansive and larger than I had imagined. What impressed me most, however, was the educational approach used in the EIM schools, which differs from our Swiss Matura in several aspects.

Nora: On Thursday the 15th of January, Green School New Zealand held their workshop and presented their school-model. I would consider that the most instructive insight because we not only got to learn about their culture, traditions and lifestyle, but we also got some great inputs about leadership, originating from indigenous and ancient principles.

Sofia: On two days, Fabian, Nora, and I worked for a long time on projects for HIF. We gathered our ideas there and ultimately developed a plan. For me, this was the most educational part, as I was first able to hear other opinions and ideas and then work on a concrete plan.

Fabian: During this conference, I had the opportunity to talk with various fellow students from EIM about their school and their points of view on topics that interest me. I was also able to take part in workshops that addressed different topics related to wellbeing, namely the well-being of students in the academic environment.

Nora: The most important thing, and what will really stick with me after this wonderful experience are the connections I got to make with people from other schools. Interacting with fellow students from all around the world with different heritages, customs and stories reminds you to be open for every new conversation, because you never know what the outcome will look like.

Sofia: I will definitely take several things with me from this week. For example, new impressions of a country and a culture, as well as new friends that I was able to meet at the meeting. Above all, I am taking away new ideas for projects that Fabian, Nora, and I hopefully will be able to implement soon.

Fabian: I definitely learned during these three days to consider multiple approaches, to make difficult decisions, and to present a project persuasively. Among other things, the goal of the conference was to show us how to lead a class or a school and how to find solutions to problems.
